Everson Griffen Reportedly Threatened to Shoot Up Hotel and Broke into Teammate's Home

According to NFL Network, questions about Griffen's mental health arose before last weekend, when he didn't play Sunday due to what the team said were personal reasons.

"We are aware of the situation involving Everson Griffen and certainly concerned by what we have heard", Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said in a statement Monday night.

KSTP-TV in Minneapolis reports that Griffen was involved in a Saturday incident at a hotel where he allegedly threatened hotel staff.

"According to police records, a person at Hotel Ivy was verbally threatening to shoot someone in the middle of the day on Saturday", the reported read. "We are now focused on Everson's well-being and providing the appropriate support for him and his family", the Vikings said of Griffen in a statement.

A summary of the call from Minneapolis emergency communications center says hotel staff called to report a guest was causing a disturbance, was laying in the lobby and had threatened to assault hotel staff and was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The Vikings themselves have since released a statement indicating that they're concerned about the incident in question and anxious about what is being considered a serious personal health-related issue.

Griffen did not attend practice on Monday, either, and was listed on the Vikings' injury report as "knee/not injury related". He started each of Minnesota's first two games. He signed a $58 million, four-year contract extension in 2017 and had been named to the Pro Bowl each of the last three years. Griffen has 44.5 sacks since moving into a starting role for the Vikings, including one this season. He logged a career-high 13 sacks previous year.
