"For 12 years, everyone who has appeared before me on the D.C. Circuit has praised my judicial temperament", Kavanaugh said Thursday during his combative testimony.

"I will be voting no on Judge Kavanaugh's nomination".

President Donald Trump says he'll leave it to the Senate to determine when it will vote on his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

On Friday, the committee voted along party lines to defeat a Democratic motion to attempt to subpoena Judge to testify before the panel.

A U.S. official with knowledge of the matter said the FBI could complete an investigation within a week, but the timeline ultimately depends on what is involved, such as the number of interviews that need to be done and whether newly uncovered information needs to be followed up on.

"I think this is a good thing that they are going to conduct this investigation because clearly, everybody wants to know what happened amongst the recollections of those four to five people that were allegedly there at the party", he said.

Many will say that Flake should have done more.

Christine Blasey Ford aired her allegation of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh, and Kavanaugh will defend himself, as the nation continues to watch Thursday's extraordinary Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

There are several reasons why an FBI investigation would be different.

The South Carolina Republican, who excoriated colleagues for their treatment of Judge Kavanaugh during Thursday's Judiciary Committee testimony, told Fox News that howls and shrieks of activists can not bend his will.

The two women were part of a large contingent that had been in Washington all week to show support for Dr Christine Blasey Ford and to protest the Senate's apparent determination to confirm someone credibly accused of sexual assault. Kavanaugh has said he will not ask the White House to request one, and Grassley argues that one isn't necessary. Jeff Flake of Arizona, said he could not promise to vote for Kavanaugh on the Senate floor and called for a delay of up to a week for a further investigation. Kavanaugh's confirmation will be finalized once the full Senate vote occurs.

Midafternoon, the deal was announced and praised as a victory for Democrats, who had spent much of the previous day calling for an FBI investigation. But between the time the elevator doors did finally close and he went to cast his vote, his mind had changed.

As the hearing got underway, popular Republican Gov. Charlie Baker called on the Senate to postpone Kavanaugh's confirmation vote.

Ford says she didn't talk with anyone about her alleged assault at the time it happened in 1982, including in the 1990s at the time the Federal Bureau of Investigation might have looked into Kavanaugh's background so he could join the Justice Department, or in the early 2000s when he worked for then-President George W. Bush.

Protesters rally against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as the Senate Judiciary Committee debates his confirmation, September 28, 2018, at the Supreme Court in Washington. "Don't look away from me", Gallagher demands of Flake.

Sen. Lindsey Graham told reporters that Democrats were begging Flake for a delay in Kavanaugh's nomination process, and "nice guy" Flake wanted to act fairly so he gave in.
