Russian Antisemitism Rears Its Head Over Syria

If US is all for sovereignty it should stop meddling in other countries’ affairs – Lavrov

"It will face regrettable reactions if it continues to do so", he added. "In 2013, we suspended the delivery of the S-300 system to Syria, following an appeal of the Israeli side". Israel previously vowed to destroy the S-300s if Syria used them to target its jets, claiming that Tel Aviv is only bombing the Arab Republic in order to thwart Iran and Hezbollah's ambitions to build missiles there that it fears will be used to one day attack it.

Lavrov stressed that Moscow will equip the command posts of the Syrian air defense automated control systems, which are only in the armed forces of Russian Federation.

At a news conference after his speech, Lavrov said the delivery of an S-300 surface-to-air missile system to Syria has begun.

Since intervening in Syria's war, Russian Federation has generally turned a blind eye to Israeli attacks inside the country.

Russia said last week that it would deliver Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime with advanced anti-aircraft missile systems in the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike earlier this month, which was mistakenly shot down by a Russian military plane, killing all 15 of its crew members. Russian Federation already has an even more advanced S-400 deployed at its two military installations in Hmeymim and Tartous.

Russian Federation announced that it will be sending S-300s to Syria as part of its response to Israel's lethal recklessness last week, thus drawing a new line in the sand and making it so that Israel will no longer have the freedom to bomb the Arab Republic at will like it used to.

In turn, the Israeli prime minister warned Putin about unpleasant consequences that could result from the deal, saying handing over advanced weapons systems to irresponsible hands will increase dangers in the region.

Lavrov also offered support to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas right after Abbas slammed the USA decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. A U.S. -led coalition official told Newsweek on Monday that the introduction of additional weapons to Syria "is a concern", while a U.S. Central Command spokesperson said it "risks an exacerbation of the conflict and an escalation of the humanitarian situation" there. Until last week's incident, such remarks were effectively prohibited in public in Russian Federation, because officials were certain that the person at the top-President Vladimir Putin-objected to them.
