By-elections to fill 11 parliamentary seats and 19 provincial assembly seats are scheduled for October 14.

Besides Ashiana, Shehbaz Sharif has been accused of corruption in Punjab Power Development Companies (PPDC), Punjab Saafi Pani Companies (PSPC), and Multan Metro Bus Project.

Sharif denies any wrongdoing, and his brother has denounced corruption cases against him and other party leaders as politically motivated.

But, the Islamabad High Court freed the trio on bail last month and suspended their sentence after they challenged the Avenfield verdict.

Hundreds of enraged party workers and supporters took to the roads, burnt tyres and staged a protest after their president Shahbaz Sharif's detention.

No cases are being lodged against Prime Minister Imran Khan because he and NAB are partners in crime, said PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb. MNA Waheed Alam and MPA Mian Marghoob Ahmad are among those named in the case.

Shahbaz's close confidant Ahad Cheea and Nawaz's principal secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad are already in the NAB's custody in the Ashiana housing scheme scam. Faisalabad mayor stated that Sharif was being punished for serving the masses of the Punjab.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif is being brought to the Accountability Court in an armoured vehicle while police personnel are sitting on top of the vehicle to stop PML-N workers from moving forward. "The NAB will produce the former Chief Minister of Punjab in the honourable accountability court tomorrow", a statement from the agency said.

This Saaf Pani Company was established by Shahbaz's previous Punjab government to conceive, plan, design, execute and manage projects for the provision of safe drinking water in terms of both access and quality, to communities living in rural areas of the province.

According to NAB, "the contract for the housing scheme was won by a construction company titled Chaudhry Latif and Sons but former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif and his aides awarded the Rs 14 billion contract to Lahore Casa Developers - a proxy group of Paragon City (Pvt) Limited, which is said to be owned by Railways Minister Saad Rafique". He will appear before an accountability court for remand on Saturday.

"The government is afraid that the PML-N isn't broken despite all the cheap tactics", party spokeswoman Maryam Aurangzeb said, adding: "It is an attempt to influence the by-election".

Nawaz claims he is being targeted by the country's powerful security establishment, and his brother Shahbaz, who led the PML-N into the July 25 election, has echoed the allegations.
