Russian Federation has consistently denied any involvement in the Skripal chemical attack and the shooting down of MH17.

In a post on Thursday, Bellingcat said that in the process of confirming the identities of the agents revealed by Dutch and British authorities, it found the name of one of the officers, Aleksei Morenets, in a Russian automobile registration database from 2011.

"The EU will continue to strengthen the resilience of its institutions and those of its member states, and global partners and organisations in the digital domain", the statement said.

"This pattern of behavior demonstrates their desire to operate without regard to global law or established norms and to do so with a feeling of impunity and without consequences", Hunt said.

May added, "We will uphold the rules-based worldwide system, and defend global institutions from those that seek to do them harm".

"The GRU's actions are reckless and indiscriminate", Hunt said.

The foreign office set out six cyber attacks spanning from 2015 until previous year.

They used illegal crypto currency such as Bitcoin to "further their conspiracies", Demers said.

According to U.S. investigators, agents from the GRU's Unit 26165 broke into the Democratic National Committee's emails, wreaking havoc during the 2016 United States presidential election.

On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted seven GRU officers on a range of charges, including the OPCW hacking.

Here is a summary of the GRU's activities, according to western intelligence agencies.

The events have a connection to Canada, the statement said, pointing to the 2016 attack on the Montreal-based World Anti-Doping Agency.

Russian Federation was banned from the 2018 Winter Olympics in a massive doping scandal.

Between July and August 2015 multiple email accounts belonging to a small UK-based TV station were accessed and content stolen. It impacted the airport in Ukraine and the Kiev Metro. Given the high confidence assessment and the broader context, the United Kingdom government has made the judgement that the Russian government - the Kremlin - was responsible.

The UK's National Cyber Security Centre assess that the GRU is nearly certainly responsible for the cyber activities listed below.

Officials said they were from the GRU's Unit 26165, which has also been known as APT 28.

Among the list was the Cyber Caliphate, a group that claimed to be linked to Islamic State.

Though, the minister sought to reassure Canadians that Canada's security agencies are working to protect national security, including a new national cyber security strategy.

The prime minister's strong language was promoted by the attack on the Skripals.

The OPCW was at the time probing the nerve agent poisoning of Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal in the English town of Salisbury, and an alleged chemical attack on the Syrian town of Douma by the Moscow-backed regime in Damascus.

"This was not an isolated act", British Ambassador Peter Wilson to the Netherlands said at a briefing about the espionage on Thursday.

"Clearly there is evidence that very untoward behaviour by the Russians has been at play here, totally outside the norm of civilized behaviour among countries and we're standing with our allies... to call out that illicit behaviour when we see it", Goodale said.

The Dutch and British blamed Russia's GRU for "brazen" activities across the globe and for trying to cover up Russia's alleged participation in the nerve agent poisoning in March of ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, and the downing of MH17 over Ukraine that killing all 298 people on board - including 27 Australians - during a period of intense fighting between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russia rebels.
