Microsoft Halts Windows 10 Update Over Mass File Deletion

Microsoft Forced To Pull Windows 10 October 2018 Update As Users Report Files Being Deleted

Microsoft's Windows 10 October 2018 (version 1809) was the second biggest software update since April and promised a myriad of new features and improvements.

After several users complained that installing the Windows 10 October 2018 update has been wiping off their data, Microsoft on Saturday announced putting a halt to the availability of the update.

Microsoft also has a warning for anyone who has manually downloaded the update, which says "please don't install it and wait until new media is available" and also suggests that anyone with missing files should contact the company directly.

An alarming number of users have taken to social media forums and Microsoft's own support website to complain about the serious issue.

Microsoft's Windows Server 2019 has also been pulled, although Microsoft has not made an official statement to that effect.

Cutting corners: A whole swathe of issues have appeared with the new Windows 10 October Update; Microsoft Store apps mightn't be able to connect to the internet, performance might be reduced due to incompatibilities with older Intel drivers and worst of all, files might be deleted.

An apparent bug in the October Windows 10 update has the potential to delete the contents of your Windows 10 user folders - including documents, photos, music, videos and everything else you hold dear. In order to do so, launch Start Menu on your Windows 10 device and go to Settings. "They have the tools to get you back to a good state", said Sarkar. Your PC will switch back to the older Windows 10 build.
