Staying with the same 6C/6T configuration, the 9600K improves the base frequency by 100 MHz, while adding 300 MHz to the rated single-core Turbo Boost 2.0 clock speed.

There were plenty of rumors and leaks regarding them prior to the launch event today but here they are: Intel has finally announced the 9th Generation Intel Core processor lineup for the desktop market. It's also the first time Intel has bestowed the "i9" moniker on a mainstream desktop chip. But if you thought that the new octa-core K-series chips are powerful, it's about to get beastly. Next to last year's Intel Core i7-8700K, this new chip has two more cores but four fewer threads. It has 8 cores, 16 threads and the base frequency is 3.6GHz which can be boosted up to 5.0GHz. There's also a new Xeon chip, the Xeon W-3175X, for use in workstation PCs to support highly specialized hardware and software such as ECC memory. The new 95W TDP CPUs, which also include the eight-core/eight-thread Core i7-9700K (note the lack of Hyper-Threading on a Core i7 part), and the six-core/six-thread Core i5-9600K, should become available today for pre-order in systems from Intel's various partners, prior to full availability on October 19th, which is also when our reviews of the new parts will go live. For the ninth generation, the improvements essentially boil down to adding more cores while keeping the clock speeds and power consumption mostly the same as before.

The Intel Core i9 9900K processor is aimed at desktop-based enthusiasts and Intel is claiming that this is the "the best gaming processor in the world".

But the performance difference could be much greater for content creators who are considering upgrading to a 9th-gen X-series chip.

The top-end Core CPU is the i9-9980XE, with 18 cores and 36 threads.

At the lower end, we have the i5-9600K, replacing the current i5-8600K.

The spotlight continues to remain on Intel's 9th Gen launch this week. The difference here could be remarkable, and well worth the considerable expense.
