"In addition, large numbers of troops have spread out throughout the area to conduct searches and checks", the army said.

The suspected assailant worked at the park, which employs both Israelis and Palestinians. As of now we know nothing about the circumstances.

Palestinian militant groups praised the attack, calling it revenge for Israeli "crimes" towards the Palestinians. The second was named as Ziv Hajbi, 35, a father of three.

Security footage shows the shooter fleeing, still armed with a rifle.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for his part, vowed to bring the attacker to justice.

Israel's President Reuven Rivlin and United States ambassador David Friedman both condemned the shooting in the Barkan industrial zone, where thousands of Palestinians and an equal numbers of Jewish Israelis have worked side-by-side for decades, as an attack on coexistence. The Palestinian economy is heavily restricted under Israeli military rule, forcing tens of thousands of Palestinians to seek work in Israel as well as Jewish settlements.

Soldiers, as well as police and Shin Bet internal security officers "operated in the village of Shuweika, north of Tulkarm, from which the terrorist originated", the military said.

While insisting the attack was an act of terrorism, he acknowledged there were "other factors involved as well", without elaborating.

"One of the workers was sacked and he didn't like the owner".

Reports say the gunman - who is thought to be a Palestinian - entered a factory building and shot at two women and a man.

Some Israeli media reported the Palestinian suspect had been recently fired from his job at the site, raising speculation the attack may have been motivated by a personal vendetta. "I was very surprised by what happened; there was no sign he was planning such a thing", he was quoted by the paper as saying.
