Ousted Guardians of the Galaxy director switches camps, tied to new DC Comics film

Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn may be moving over to DC.

The first "Suicide Squad" starred Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, and Cara Delevingne. The former Marvel director was sacked by Disney off of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise after old tweets from Gunn that were offensive in nature surfaced this past summer.

A "completely new take" could see a shaking-up of the supervillain squad roster, so perhaps moviegoers will get to see characters like Doctor Light, Nightshade, or Bronze Tiger in Suicide Squad 2. He has said that working for Disney has been "pretty nauseating" and has questioned his return to the third installment of the Guardians franchise, which has been put on hold since Gunn's firing. According to the outlet, O'Connor is now set to direct Ben Affleck in the film Torrance. Suicide Squad is beyond rehabilitation-there was so much wrong with it that no sequel could possibly work under any circumstance. Not to answer out of turn, but considering Warners made the trailer for the first film resemble a Guardians of the Galaxy film, it seems like a good fit.

Patty Jenkins left Marvel following creative differences regarding Thor 2, and went on to make Wonder Woman, and Josh Whedon did something similar when he took over Justice League.

Hoooooooy boy, did Suicide Squad 2 just get an very bad lot more exciting?!

The film adaptation of Suicide Squad was already a bit of a Guardians of the Galaxy knock-off: you have a ragtag team full of scoundrels, banding together as unlikely friends to defeat a more powerful evil, all while classic songs play in the background. The publication writes that the directing gig could be decided once his script is complete.
