Like Wang, the No.2 seed came into this encounter without dropping a set and she will take that unblemished record into Monday's (AEST) meeting with Sevastova, who earlier in the day saw off US Open champion Naomi Osaka to reach her first WTA Premier final.

Caroline Wozniacki dispatched Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 6-3 in the final of China Open 2018 to win her third title of the 2018 season.

Del Potro was far from his best and has been fighting flu or a cold for several days in the Chinese capital.

Wozniacki has already confirmed she'll be returning to the ASB Classic in 2019, where she's looking to go one better than her finals appearance in 2018.

Wozniacki managed two breaks in the Latvian's first three services, storming to a solid 6-3, 4-1 lead that seemed unassailable given the ease with which the Dane was commanding the court in the first set. Wozniacki is 1000 points away from the World Number one ranking and to dethrone Simona Halep.

"As a little kid I had a dream of becoming a professional tennis player, becoming number one in the world".

Russian qualifier Daniil Medvedev stunned home favourite Kei Nishikori in the final to claim the Japan Open title after a comfortable 6-2 6-4 victory in Tokyo yesterday. Sevastova, who has been managing a stomach muscle injury since the round of 16, broke back to give herself a chance to mount a comeback. I think after the second match I started feeling like I was hitting the ball well and I could see the ball really well.

This was her third trophy of the season and 30th title of her career.

She sealed the win with the second of three match points on her own serve.
