However, only users who've registered for previous system software betas will be eligible. "In addition, when this feature officially launches, a list of compatible games published before April 1, 2018, will be provided on PlayStation.com for reference before you make a change". If you run into any issues with the change, PlayStation will let you revert back to your old ID free of charge.

When games change their ID, they can choose an option to have their old name appear next to their new one. You will not be able to adjust this after completing the online ID change. Numerous most popular PS4 games that were released prior to that date will work as well, but beware, several games will not have the PSN ID change function.

Twelve years after debuting its PlayStation Network online service alongside the PlayStation 3, Sony is finally giving users the ability to change their PSN Online ID. So 24 year-old TW33NY_BOppErZ can now rest easy that they can change their handle to something more palatable in the new year. If that happens, you can revert back to your original ID for free at any time (this can only be done once during the preview program). If you're not in the Preview Program, the feature will not be available until Sony gives it an official full release.

To make the change from xxxSniperJoe420xxx to "MyWifeIsMyLife2012" you'll merely need to head to the settings menu or profile section of the PS4.

KitGuru Says: I've been wanting to change my name for quite some time after my online moniker was inexplicably denied.

It will also be compatible with a "large majority" of "the most played PS4 games that were released before this date".

The preview program for this feature is planned to conclude at the end of November 2018. There'll be a short wait after that, with the feature set to officially roll out for all users sometime in early 2019.
