Vladimir Putin hails Khabib Nurmagomedov's UFC win during meeting

UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov has threatened to quit the sport should they fire a team-mate for his role in scenes that marred the end of the Russian's win over Conor McGregor.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has met with Khabib Nurmagomedov to congratulate him on winning the UFC lightweight title, and defended the fighter's actions in the brawl that followed his victory over Conor McGregor.

"Why no one says anything about insulting my homeland, religion, nation, family?"

Nate Diaz has bizarrely asked to be let go by the UFC, claiming that it's "more fair" than cutting Zubaira Tukhugov from the roster. "I finished what [McGregor] had started". You cancelled Zubaira's fight and you want to dismiss him just because he hit Conor.

"If you decide to fire him, you should know that you'll lose me too".

"In a family anything can happen, (but) we never allow ourselves to go beyond certain limits", Putin said. "If you still decide to fire him, don't forget to send me my broken contract, otherwise I'll break it myself".

"And one more thing, you can keep my money that you are withholding".

". I hope it won't get stuck in your throat."
After the fight, the champion jumped into the crowd to confront McGregor's teammate, Bellator MMA fighter Dillon Danis who had been antagonizing him from cageside.

Nurmagomedov also said in his Instagram post he believes McGregor hit Tukhugov first during their confrontation in the octagon post-fight.

If you still decide to fire him, don't forget to send me my broken contract, otherwise I'll break it myself.

According to Bennett, Nurmagomedov's $2 million payday for the fight is being withheld by the commission, pending the completion of the investigation.

While Khabib started the post-fight brawls, McGregor started the hate between the two by attacking Khabib's bus and insulting his religion, among other aspects of his life. That's probably why his latest social media post has caused a lot of chatter.

Khabib vs. Diaz does seem like a longshot but hey, it would definitely make the UFC some money and as we all know, they do love a quick buck. They are facing potential fines and suspensions.
