Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant's inclusion in India's 14-man squad announced by the BCCI on Thursday for the first two ODIs against West Indies nearly spells doom for the underperforming senior pro Dinesh Karthik.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are set to come back after a much-needed break during the ongoing Test series. Captain Virat Kohli makes a comeback to the Indian squad after sitting out the Asia Cup last month.

Chennai Super Kings' all-rounder Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, and Ravindra Jadeja have retained their spot in the team while Hardik Pandya, who was ruled out from Asia Cup 2018 due to injury, is not included in the squad.

Dinesh Karthik was left out of the squad to make way for Pant, and allrounders Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya had not yet recovered from their injuries.

Rishabh Pant's impressive form with the bat for India in Test cricket has not gone unnoticed and he could well be rewarded with a limited-overs call up for the ODI series versus West Indies. The last time Shami played an ODI was in September 2017 against Australia. However, 33-year-old Dinesh Karthik, who failed to capitalise his opportunity in the Asia Cup, misses out. Kohli's performance against West Indies in the first Test hinted that the Run Machine is perfectly fit and he might not be inclined to take any further rest.

"Mohammed Shami has been included precisely for that reason".

The chief selector also said Virat Kohli, who was rested for the Asia Cup, will play the entire series.

Earlier in the day, India announced a 12-member squad for the Hyderabad Test starting tomorrow, it was a surprise that Mayank Agarwal again does not get picked.

Ravindra Jadeja too keeps his place. Although Pant might feature for India in the ODI, it looks like for the time-being he will just be a batsman as MS Dhoni is also picked as the wicketkeeper.
