WaPo Reluctantly Runs Khashoggi's Final Column

Mr Khashoggi, a 60-year-old Saudi dissident and USA resident, visited the consulate on 2 October to obtain papers needed to get married.

A team of Turkish investigators searched the Saudi consulate in Istanbul for a second time as part of a probe into the disappearance of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, according to an AFP correspondent. Japanese media company Nikkei is the latest to withdraw from Davos in the Desert, as the confab is known, joining CNN, Bloomberg, New York Times, CNBC, the Financial Times, Economist Editor in Chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, Los Angeles Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong.

In his column, Khashoggi begins by lamenting that most countries in the Arab world do not have a free press and as a result, many citizens are "either uninformed or misinformed" about issues that affect their day-to-day lives.

Saudi authorities, meanwhile, have said Khashoggi left the consulate without being harmed shortly after he arrived.

The AP's Oval Office interview came not long after Trump spoke Tuesday with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Khashoggi, a Saudi citizen and permanent US resident, entered the consulate but never came out.

"You know we need Saudi Arabia in terms of our fight against all of the terrorism, everything that's happening in Iran and other places".

A column Jamal Khashoggi filed shortly before he went missing early this month was published online by The Washington Post on Wednesday evening.

The journalist has not been seen since entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October, where Turkish officials allege he was killed.

In a column published by The Washington Post on Wednesday night, Khashoggi, who has not been seen since entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2, wrote his final piece on the freedom of the Arab world, The Daily Telegraph reported.

But the leaks appeared to resume after Saudi leaders repeated their denials of involvement to Pompeo, and Trump defended the crown prince as having been unfairly accused.

Liam Fox has bowed to pressure and pulled out of a trip to Saudi Arabia amid fury at the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Khashoggi, a critic of the current Saudi regime, was apparently tortured to death and dismembered in the building, having attended to obtain a divorce certificate.

Turkish officials said the audio recording had been handed over to the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. On Wednesday, Trump said the USA has asked for the audio and video recordings in the Khashoggi case, but cast doubt on whether such evidence actually exists.

Trump defended himself on Monday, tweeting that "I have no financial interests in Saudi Arabia (or Russian Federation, for that matter)".
