Canada Post workers begin rotating strikes across the country

Canada Post ready to trigger strike at midnight if no agreement is reached

Canada Post said that if there were to be a strike, its activities would continue with possible "minor delays". "We will stay at the bargaining table and on the picket line for as long as it takes to get a fair deal for our members".

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) filed a strike notice earlier this week after ten months of negotiations to renew collective agreements.

The city has a plan in place if Calgary's mail service is disrupted and officials say they are working with an external courier service to deliver "critical material" to Calgarians and businesses. "Canada Post will make every effort to minimize the impact".

While the strike is looming close to the deadline the Canada Post has confirmed that they do have an offer on the table that involves wage increases, job security, plus improved benefits from before.

Payments to the city for utility bills (Enmax, Water Services, and Waste & Recycling Services), animal licences, property and business taxes, and corporate invoices can also be made at most banks in person, through the bank's online or telephone banking systems, or online at enmax.com for Enmax bills.

"We've done everything we could to try and reach an agreement and they're not just getting it into their heads that we're serious about the things we've been discussing", said Tony Rogers, president of the Nova Local of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

"Toronto is a key processing hub for mail and parcels in Canada".

"We're looking to both sides to be reasonable and come to a quick compromise". He also notes that Canada Post has rural and urban units, each with differing issues.

The CFIB recommended its members switch to using e-transfers to send and receive payments, and to consider using alternative shipping services to move their products.

The workers will be on strike for 24 hours.

A labour disruption involving Canada Post will hit the Windsor-Essex area first.

"All the trucks have been waved off and they've been respecting our lines - much appreciated".
