Youth turnout could hold the key in the US mid terms and threaten Trump's hold on Congress

Trump and Obama are the most popular figures in their parties, and their appearances on the campaign trail are created to stoke enthusiasm among core supporters in the late stages of a midterm congressional election widely seen as a referendum on Trump's first two years in the White House. The polls now show Democrats with a razor-thin, but consistent advantage heading into Election Day.

On the flip side, if Republicans maintain control of the House and Senate, that's not only a victory for the GOP, but a validation of Trump's brand of politics and his unconventional presidency.

The 2012 Person of the Year is credited for ending the war in Iraq, taking down Bin Laden, saving the American auto industry, favoring women rights and equal pay, repealing "Don't ask, Don't tell", establishing "The Dream Act", ending the 2008 recession, and a host of others.

"It's all fragile. Everything I told you about, it can be undone and changed by the Democrats if they get in", Trump said.

On Tuesday, Democrats need to win 23 seats to retake the House.

"Now, we are defending the borders of our country". If that happens, shares of Facebook, Twitter and Alphabet, which have come under increased pressure this year, could have more downside. Vote for them. If you want strong borders and safe communities, vote for the Republicans.

"This whole thing with this caravan is pretty scary", said Jennifer Rager, 55, of Bozeman, Montana, who approves of Trump's plans to crack down on immigration.

The party's task was much more hard in the Senate, where Republicans hold a narrow 51-49 majority but Democrats are defending 10 seats in states won by the president two years ago.

Ms Gillibrand was a congresswoman representing an eastern NY district and was appointed to the Senate seat when Hillary Clinton was nominated secretary of state by President Barack Obama.

The mid-terms will decide which party will control the two houses of Congress.

He and GOP leaders on Capitol Hill continued to express optimism over Tuesday's elections, though the final indicators, from late-breaking polls to early voting tallies, suggested Democrats are poised for significant gains from Congress to governor's mansions across the country.

An ABC News poll this week placed his job approval at 40 percent, while CNN's final survey put him at 39 percent, worst of any president heading into his first midterm, in records dating back to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. There's no downside to being wrong when it comes to election predictions (how many people who soiled their sheets in 2016 guaranteeing a Clinton victory are still on TV predicting a "blue wave"?), and it's mainly done from a writing standpoint as clickbait.

So what exactly are these elections, and how do they work? The 11-point gap is almost double that recorded in 2016, when 52 percent of Democrats and 46 percent of Republicans said they were likely to inform others of their voting intentions.

"While midterms usually garner much less interest than presidential elections there has been a surge in voter turnout in primaries and special elections ahead of November elections".

Hispanics nationwide, according to a Reuters/Ipsos national tracking poll released on Sunday, are more interested in voting this year than in the last usa congressional midterm elections in 2014, and their enthusiasm outpaces that of all us adults.

Governors are also being chosen in 36 out of 50 states.

"We're putting America first". And, no matter the outcome, you'll at least know that you did the only thing you could to stand and be counted. "Health care for millions of people". Immediately, talk would turn to how the 2016 election was perhaps a fluke and to how Trump's divisiveness had backfired. Voting for Democrats, either actively or passively by not voting, is allowing that progress to be stopped, even reserved.

What's more, Trump's strategy of demonizing immigrants would have worked - again.

At home, the Trump administration is undoing the central tenets of socialism-high taxes and a sprawling regulatory state. Any articles of impeachment would be referred to the House Judiciary Committee for review and possible hearings.

The report concludes that socialist policies in the United States would lead to shortages or degrade the quality of any product or service which is monopolized by the government, slowing the pace of innovation and lowering the quality of life.

"The character of this country is on the ballot", Mr Obama, his voice hoarse from days of campaigning, said during an appearance Monday in Virginia on behalf of senators Tim Kaine and Jennifer Wexton, a top House prospect.
