Republican Marsha Blackburn Wins Tennessee Senate Seat

Gov. Phil Bredesen (D-TN) had narrowed in on Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) in the Tennessee race for the U.S. Senate, but it was the Republican that prevailed Tuesday.

Blackburn focused her campaign message on supporting President Donald Trump's agenda in an effort to appeal to the state's dominant Republican constituency.

Blackburn thanked Trump and Pence in her victory speech and said she will be a leader who will "work with the president and keep this nation on the path to prosperity that we are on today". Although Bredesen largely kept his distance from other well-known Democrats, Blackburn had no qualms bringing Trump and fellow national Republicans to Tennessee.

It did not take long for Trump to respond to Ms Swift's Instagram post last month, saying the pop star "doesn't know anything" about Congresswoman Blackburn.

Bredesen had been viewed as one of the Democrats' best hopes in the party's quest to regain majority control of the Senate.

'I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. The president's son Eric Trump, and U.S. Sens.

While his ability to legislate across - not only with Republicans in the Senate, but with President Trump, who remains popular in the state - was the crux of his pitch to voters, it wasn't enough.

With 45 percent of precincts reporting, Blackburn had garnered a whopping 62 percent of the vote, compared to just 37 percent for Bredesen.

Afterward though, she managed to consolidate support across the GOP's various political circles, including from former U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher, who briefly opposed her in the primary and called for Corker to run again upon dropping out of the race.

Describing herself as "hard core" and "politically incorrect and proud of it", Blackburn embraced her reputation as a conservative firebrand. Bredesen's moderate stances, he predicted, would give these voters an easy excuse not to vote for her. She's a tremendous woman'. She will now continue the fight as Senator.
