MSNBC Accidentally Airs Results Of Florida Governor's Race In Test 'Misfire.' Guess Who's 'Winning'?

Republican Ron DeSantis will win the race to become Florida's 46th governor, CNN projects, defeating Democrat Andrew Gillum to become the state's fourth consecutive GOP chief executive.

According to NBC News, Republican Governor Rick Scott led Democratic Senator Bill Nelson by less than half a percentage point.

Under Georgia law, if no candidate wins more than 50 percent of the vote, then the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff election.

DeSantis and his wife, Casey, appeared before supporters at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando shortly after 11:15 p.m, after receiving a concession call from Gillum.

With a crowd of supporters cheering him on, Andrew Gillum cast his ballot for governor of Florida this morning at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee, FL. "Just want to say, earlier this hour, uh, we showed a graphic of the Florida gubernatorial race".

Gilllum said he called DeSantis and congratulated him.

Democrats, playing catch-up after a net loss of 13 governorships and more than 900 state legislative seats during the eight-year Obama administration, fielded their largest slate of legislative candidates in more than three decades.

DeSantis' victory continues the drought for Democrats seeking Florida's highest office that started in 1998 when Bush defeated Buddy MacKay, who had been Lawton Chiles' lieutenant governor.

DeSantis, 40, was considered an underdog before Trump tweeted his support for DeSantis in December, a month before he got into the race. It was a crushing blow to Florida Democrats, who hoped a "blue wave" of anti-Trump sentiment would enable them to win a governor's race for the first time since 1994. Attacking Gillum during an appearance on Fox News, DeSantis, referring to successes in Florida achieved by Scott, said "the last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases, and bankrupting the state".

The big victor: You guessed it, the Democrat on the ticket, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who managed to secure a victory. Trump traveled to each state in the closing days of the election cycle to energize Republicans at "Make America Great Again" rallies.

But many said he conceded too soon.

But Gillum would also find himself on the defensive over an FBI investigation into corruption in Tallahassee.
