HBO Drops First 'Game Of Thrones' Season 8 Trailer

Game of Thrones’ Season 8 teaser Fire ice and the promise of an epic battle

Game of Thrones’ Season 8 teaser Fire ice and the promise of an epic battle

The first Game of Thrones season 8 teaser sets fire against ice.

Winter is almost here!

The teaser was first shown at a "Game of Thrones" panel at Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in Brazil. The above video is bittersweet in a way because it's a sign that we are actually getting closer to the release of Season 8, however, absent from the video is any actual footage from the show's upcoming swan song.

All good? Let's point out a few things you may have noticed. Fire engulfs a lion figure (a nod to House Lannister), and at the end of the clip, the two elements clash in the middle, likely representing a pretty epic battle in the series' final season.

Game of Thrones season 7 ended with the Night King breaking down The Wall by melting it with the dragon's fire.

On the one hand, there is dramatic visualization of the fact that fire - presumably Daenerys' dragon fire - must fight the icy forces of the White Walkers.

As pointed out by our own Kim Renfro, "GoT" composer Djawadi Ramin's "Winter is Here", from the season seven finale, can be heard in the teaser.

It's exciting to see HBO begin to tease Game of Thrones again as viewers have been waiting since August of 2017 for the hit show to return.

In mid November, HBO finally revealed the release date for the final season.

Game of Thrones will be followed by a prequel spin-off which is expected to premiere as early as 2020 and stars Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse (Poldark).
