All clear after bomb threat forces evacuation of CNN offices

CNN's Brian Stelter tweeted that the headquarters had been evacuated while NYPD investigates.

"The NYPD is investigating a bomb threat near CNN NYC's office at Columbus Circle".

The caller said five bombs had been planted in the building.

Don Lemon, who was on the air when the threat forced the abrupt end of his show, also tweeted out the news.

Around midnight, CNN said police had given the all clear for people to go back into the building.

According to CNN, fire alarm bells rang inside the newsroom shortly after 10:30 p.m. The NYPD later issued an all-clear and said pedestrian traffic was reopened.

A bomb squad, police cars and emergency vehicles were rushed to the scene.

Security officers evacuated the building as a precaution and called police. Less than an hour before the threat was phoned in to the CNN, Trump had tweeted "FAKE NEWS - ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!" Earlier in the night, Trump had lambasted the "fake news media" on Twitter as well, falsely claiming that reporters don't mention the Republican midterm gains in the Senate.

In October, the building was partially evacuated after a suspicious package containing a crude pipe bomb was delivered to the company, addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan.
