A teaser trailer for Captain Marvel was first released back in September, however it was targeted by trolls who slammed Larson for not smiling more in the clip. She's also very loyal to Carol and those she cares about which is why it isn't too hard to believe that Goose - if she is a Flerken like Chewie - could be responsible for partially blinding Fury.

Why it matters: "Captain Marvel" promises to be an important film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During the explosion, Danvers's DNA is combined with that of Mar-Vell, a Kree hero who was also present.

A new Captain Marvel poster has been released, with the reveal presaging the film's next trailer release during ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcast on December 3.

Alongside the hints that what she knows isn't the full or true story, it suggests that the transformation of Carol Danvers into a Kree warrior is going to be a crucial part of the narrative, even if it's told through flashback.

With the film's latest trailer, however, it seems we have a pretty straightforward answer, and it comes courtesy of Annette Bening's unnamed character.

But the trailer than takes a turn, revealing that Danvers had a past life on Earth.

'We made you one of us, so you could live longer, stronger, superior.

The trailer then features Annette Bening's character, Danvers' Kree mother, who reveals that Carol's real life began nearly as it ended.

The trailer also offers a bit of insight into the Kree-Skrull war, a major event in the Marvel Comics that will unfold in this superhero adventure, set in the year 1995. And she gets unintentionally involved in their war.

In the comic books, Carol Danvers gets her powers, including the ability to fly and manipulate energy, when the Psyche-Magnitron, a Kree wishing machine, explodes.

Captain Marvel will be released in United Kingdom cinemas on March 8 2019.
