Not only did the actor join Instagram, but he also confirmed his role as Mysterio in the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The 37-year-old made the revelation by posting a video of himself reading an issue of "The Amazing Spider-Man"; the cover of which announces, "The Return of the Man Called MYSTERIO!". Photos from the set snapped backed in September showed Gyllenhaal dressed in a very elaborate looking get-up (sadly sans fishbowl), and rumours that the iconic villain would be the one squaring up against Spidey in the upcoming sequel have been swirling for a while now.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: "I would say, with John Watts who directed the movie, what makes this instalment of that franchise so great is that there is an intimacy to it".

Nonetheless, if you have any interest in referring to this Noir-inspired design by its proper title, it's now been reported that the getup's official name is Uniform Stealth. His appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home marks the character's live-action debut. A special effects expert, Quentin Beck used his talents to create elaborate illusions to commit crimes and to fight Spider-Man.

The film see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Jon Watts is returning as director, while Chris McKenna and John Francis Daley have penned the script. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are among the producers. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, two of the screenwriters behind the first movie, are back as well.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in the United Kingdom on July 5, 2019.
