Also due to launch later today was a rocket made by French company Arianespace, but this has also been delayed until tomorrow because of "unfavorable high-altitude wind conditions", the company said this afternoon.

A short time later, a sensor issue on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket delayed the launch of a new GPS III navigation satellite for the U.S. Air Force from Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

Wednesday's second attempt was expected to happen at 9:07 a.m. He said the company would be using its Falcon 9 Block 5 to launch the satellite and added that it was the same equipment that SpaceX would be using to launch astronauts to the International Space Station come 2019.

If all the rockets now scheduled launch as planned, there could be five launches within a 24 hour period.

That left United Launch Alliance, and its Delta IV Heavy rocket, scheduled for launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California at 8:57pm ET (01:57 UTC Wednesday). The capsule will be uncrewed and will be taking a NASA-sponsored payload into space. Attempts to launch separate missions both ended with the rockets and their payloads safe - but still on the ground.

Tuesday to be a pretty awesome day of rocket launches, with SpaceX, Arianespace, and United Launch Alliance all on the pad for their final orbital missions of 2019.

They said the rocket remains ready and they will look at moving the launch to Wednesday.

The launch of the Lockheed Martin-designed GPS III SV01, named Vespucci, is the first step in a longterm plan to upgrade the GPS satellite constellation managed by the United States Air Force's Global Positioning Systems Wing. This day has been marked as the bookend as because this is the first time in the world history that so many rockets were launched at once on to space.

Third up will be Arianespace, which is flying one of Russia's Soyuz rockets and launching a satellite from Europe's spaceport in French Guiana at roughly 11:37 am Eastern Standard Time (EST).
