Man City must pull everything out of the locker against Liverpool - Kompany

It has not been so great for Manchester City supporters.

With the game nearly a must-win for City in some quarters, the Reds hold all the advantage going in to the tie.

For Manchester City, it is a must-win fixture if they have to keep their hopes of defending the title alive. They can not afford a loss at all.

When the Reds travel to the Etihad on Thursday, Jurgen Klopp must utilise his aggressive, high-press tactics from the opening whistle in order to shake the confidence of Manchester City. "In the first leg they were better than us but in the second we were better than them but because of a lot of things we don't control we lost that game".

But Guardiola is said to have identified where his players can hurt Liverpool in their crunch showdown. The Reds, on the other hand, will be happy with the win or draw. "Sometimes if you prepare a football game, watching two or three games of the opponent, you still have no clue what they are doing". Their 17 wins have been a mixture of routs, hard-fought victories and lucky finishes, something all title-winning sides welcome en route to winning the league. They are now getting penalty decisions in their favour.

And a quick glance at City's recent matches suggest that's certainly the way to go here.

The Reds lead Pep Guardiola's side by seven points at the top of the Premier League table, with a possible win for the visitors on Thursday giving them an impressive lead just after the half-way mark of the season. The Blues have scored 20 goals in those nine games (2.2 goals per game).

Kompany, though, called on his side to avenge a painful Champions League quarter-final exit to Liverpool last season. But it's also because they have completed this course before and we know that counts for plenty. And there's a sense he struggles to set teams up against managerial counterpart Juergen Klopp.

"December didn't pan out the way we wanted it to and now we've got more ground to make up so yes, that makes the game even more important". The man who was unfairly called a one-season wonder is very much in this season's race for the golden boot and with xG90 of 0.68 and xA90 of 0.40, is nearly certain to contribute a goal if he plays more than 90 minutes. He has proved a breath of fresh air to Klopp and Liverpool, providing a ideal blend of defensive solidity and attacking know-how, perfectly epitomised by his performance against Manchester United.

Manchester City have some crises due to injuries in some positions.

More competition comes from Bernardo Silva, James Milner, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne, the latter of whom would ordinarily be a sure-fire pick for any combined XI. Crucially, midfield anchorman Fernandinho is fit and available.

And finally, City will not sit back at any point in the match, regardless if they are in the lead. Kyle Walker's form has been suspect as is his place in the starting XI.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are still sidelined for Liverpool.

But after Luis Suarez returned from a lengthy ban and Steven Gerrard dropped into the "Pirlo role, ' Liverpool's season took an unlikely upward trajectory". This might open the door for Jordan Henderson and even Naby Keita to play in the midfield, possibly keeping Shaqiri away from a starting spot. That's why I said to the guys at half-time, "learn from Zinchenko today guys".

"With Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Tottenham, it's really different".
