Polestar 2: 300-mile, 400-hp electric sedan coming soon

Polestar 2 Teaser

Polestar 2 Teaser

The Polestar 2 has a four-door fastback body coupled with a 300-mile range.

The auto with be priced from about $45,000, putting it in the same price range as Tesla's Model 3, which starts around $45,000 after Tesla cut the price by $2,000 this week.

Volvo's Polestar division has released a teaser image of its upcoming Polestar 2 EV, providing only a tantalizing glimpse of the sedan that follows the Polestar 1 coupe. Mercedes-Benz recently launched its own system, MBUX, on the new A-Class, and BMW's take on the technology will be found in the new 3-Series. The Polestar 2 will have a top speed in excess of 155 MPH and will be able to travel upwards of 310 miles on a single charge.

Few details are known about the Polestar 2, but it is expected to have a driving range of around 400 kilometres.

The vehicle will come with Google Android HMI, which is basically Google Assistant for your auto. Dubbed the Google Android HMI (Human Machine Interface), the system will feature Google Assistant which is a virtual assistant similar to Amazon's Alexa.

Tesla has asked the Donald Trump administration to exempt the Chinese-made computer "brain" of its new Model 3 vehicle from 25 per cent tariffs imposed in August, saying they threaten the electric carmaker's bottom line.

Polestar say the "2" will be revealed in the coming weeks (and we expect a public reveal probably at Geneva in a couple of months) and go in to production shortly after the Polestar 1 later this year.

Prices are expected to start at around £35,000, topping out at £50,000. Additional information about the vehicle, though, won't be available for a couple more months.
