Packers to hire Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur as head coach

The Packers Have Reportedly Made A Head Coaching Decision

On Monday, reports said that the Packers and Matt LaFleur reached an agreement for the 39-year-old to become the 15th head coach in Packers' history.

The Packers zeroed in on LaFleur after interviewing 10 candidates. Green Bay, though, was lethargic all game, gaining just 325 yards and converting only 3 of 14 third-down opportunities.

The Packers were 18th in total defense and 22nd in scoring past year, but Pettine earned positive marks within the organization, and was reportedly on the short list of possible assistants LaFleur presented in his interview with the Packers. He will replace Mike McCarthy, who coached the Packers for 13 seasons before being fired in early December. Green Bay chose LaFleur in part because of his success working with quarterbacks such as Jared Goff (Rams, 2017) and Matt Ryan (Falcons, 2016 MVP season).

His one season in Tennessee is his only experience calling plays.

The Titans missed the playoffs this season after finishing 9-7 and were ranked 25th in total offense, 27th in scoring and 29th in passing with quarterback Marcus Mariota, but seventh in the league in rushing.

Demovsky says the hiring is expected to keep Packers' defensive coordinator Matt Pettine and his staff intact.

But if he isn't, and the Packers continue to languish, you'd have a hard time convincing me that Murphy should be around to make the next coaching hire.
