Have Chelsea Hit A Dead End In Bid To Sign Gonzalo Higuain?

Higuain told to decide future and show AC Milan responsibility

Higuain excelled under Sarri during his time at Napoli, scoring 38 goals in his final season before making a big money move to rivals Juve.

The Mirror are citing a report from Marca that claims Chelsea are now set to wrap-up a £36m [€40m] deal to sign Higuain after the striker agreed to the switch and will reportedly pen a contract worth around £140,000-a-week [€8m per year].

And the 31-year-old Argentina worldwide wants to join former Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri at the English club which would take over his 36 million euro (US$41 million) buy-out clause.

The London Evening Standard are reporting on Wednesday that Sarri has once again asked the Chelsea board to try and seal the signature of Higuain.

The Argentine is unhappy at the San Siro and wants to cut short his loan spell in Milan to join Maurizio Sarri, who managed him at Napoli, at Chelsea.

"Moreover, Milan has no intention of letting Higuain go because it would be hard to replace it. Milan would not make money from the sale of Higuain but will not take the loan".

Higuain was farmed out to Milan last summer after Cristiano Ronaldo's £100m move from Juventus and has scored six goals in 15 Serie A games this season.

However, Milan sporting director Leonardo warned on Tuesday he had to get down to work.

Brazilian Leonardo added: "There's no point following rumours and gossip".

"To date, Milan knows that Higuain had problems but made him understand that if he remains he must play and take responsibility. Seeing as he is here, he needs to get down and actually do something for this team".
