Amazon Launches Free Streaming Service ‘IMDb Freedive’

IMDb called the new video service Freedive

"With the launch of IMDb Freedive, they can now also watch full-length movies and TV shows on IMDb and all Amazon Fire TV devices for free", IMDb Chief Executive Col Needham said in a statement.

The AVOD will be available in the USA beginning today on the IMDb website and on all Amazon Fire TV devices.

We first heard about Amazon's plans to offer a free streaming video service back in August 2018. There are already many players like Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney, YouTube and our own local ShowMax who are all offering loads of content for viewers to stream, but now you can also add IMDb to that list as well.

Freedive will include a selection of acquired movies and TV shows, with the launch lineup inching TV shows like "Fringe", "Heroes" and "The Bachelor", and movies like "The Last Samurai" and "The Illusionist". Presently, Freedive is only available for the U.S customers. Now I know what you're thinking: do we really need another streaming site?

The free, ad-supported streaming video channel can be viewed on laptops, smartphones or on a big screen through Amazon Fire TV devices.

The service's films and TV shows are available to registered IMDb or Amazon users and Amazon Fire TV owners with compatibility across a wide range of Android, IOS and Fire devices. The company is yet to comment for the Freedive launch in other countries.

The company said the Freedive catalog will continue to evolve, with new titles added regularly.

On the IMDb desktop website all IMDb Freedive title pages will have an option to "Watch for Free on IMDb Freedive". These new free ad-supported TV shows and movies are hidden far down the Amazon Roku Channel.
