Now, McCaw joins Toronto's bench as the Raptors pursue an Eastern Conference championship.

According to several reports, McCaw is now planning to sign a one-year deal with the Toronto Raptors. The contract was for two years and $6 million, but the Cavs gave themselves an out and waived McCaw after just three games.

In December, after he had held out for half the season, the Cleveland Cavaliers extended an offer sheet to McCaw.

The Raptors aren't involved in the investigation.

The league plans to speak to McCaw's representatives on Thursday to probe into if McCaw and the Cavaliers reached an agreement to waive him so he could become an unrestricted free agent, sources said.

McCaw appeared in three games for the Cavs and averaged 17.7 minutes, 1.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. McCaw was free to sign with any team after clearing waivers. McCaw was a restricted free agent with the Golden State Warriors, but the defending champions chose not to match the contract.

The Warrior filed a request with the National Basketball Association to investigate whether the transactions qualified as salary-cap circumvention. The NBA is reportedly launching a formal review into Cleveland's facilitating of these events, according to New York Times reporter Marc Stein. Under the terms of the deal, McCaw will make the minimum salary (less than he would have made had he stayed with Golden State).

So at the end of the day, the only thing McCaw accomplished was escaping a team that has won three of the last four National Basketball Association championships.

McCaw most recently played for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
