The good news is the long-running procedural has been picked up for a 15th season, the bad news is it will be the final season for the CBS series, Variety has confirmed.

Immediately after completing the episodes for this season, Deadline reports that they will go right into production for the last season, which will supposedly only consist of 10 episodes.

The final episodes, starring Joe Mantegna, will air later this year and into 2020.

15 seasons is a long time for any drama, with only Gunsmoke, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NCIS and Grey's Anatomy having run for more, according to Deadline.

Criminal Minds is ending, CBS announced yesterday - revealing that the show will be concluding after the 15th season. I also don't know if I would've anticipated that we'd have 325 episodes by the time it's all said and done. "We are so proud to have aired it", said Amy Reisenbach, CBS' EVP current programs.

That's when all the networks involved, CBS, ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios, came to the decision that the series should be extended for one more season so that they could spin a proper finale. "It speaks to everything we do best, which is air quality television". In Live+Same Day, Season 14 is now averaging a 0.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 4.7 million viewers per episode, though those numbers have typically risen noticeably in delayed viewing. And it isn't hard to imagine actors who have spent almost 15 years playing the same characters wanting to see what else is out there for them. Cast shakeups and behind-the-scenes drama have been the standard on "Criminal Minds" for the past several years.
