US Representative Tusli Gabbard (HI-02) today announced she plans to run for president in 2020 during an interview that is scheduled to air Saturday on CNN's The Van Jones Show, according to CNN.

Here are all the Democrats who have announced they will be running.

"There is one main issue that is central to the rest, and that is the issue of war and peace", Gabbard told Jones.

In remarks aired by CNN on Friday, Ms Gabbard said she meant to pursue a challenge to Republican President Donald Trump. She quit the DNC in early 2016 to endorse Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Bernie Sanders, are now weighing whether to run for president and are expected to announce their decision soon.

The Samoan and Hindu congresswoman is an Iraq War veteran and an outspoken critic of United States "regime change" policy in Syria. She left office in 2004 and volunteered to be deployed to Iraq.

Gabbard has close links with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In recent weeks, Massachusetts Sen. Mazie Hirono, over lawmakers' questioning of judicial nominee Brian Buescher. Gabbard didn't use any names, but the description applied to questions asked by Senators Hirono and Harris. Hirono suggested Gabbard was aligning herself with conservatives.

Gabbard's announcement comes after the progressive congresswoman was the headline speaker at a December meet-and-greet with Democrat activists in Exeter, New Hampshire, where she told local reporters that a White House bid was on the table.

Indeed, Gabbard has rankled some in her party for her unorthodox moves. "It is long overdue that we end USA complicity in Saudi Arabia's atrocities", Gabbard said of the hot button issue. She's opposed to military intervention, and drew criticism in 2017 for meeting during a secret trip with Syrian President Bashar Assad whose oppressive regime has allegedly used chemical weapons on its own people.

Gabbard also met with Donald Trump after the election in November 2016 to discuss Syria and terrorism policy. That led to more critical attention to Gabbard's foreign policy views, though a few months into the Trump administration, she rejected praise from the president and his allies. "Tulsi Gabbard has an even bigger problem than her lack of experience - it's that she has no base of support".

Gabbard was born in American Samoa to a Catholic father, Hawaii State Senator Mike Gabbard, and her mother, Carol Porter Gabbard, is of Caucasian descent who professes Hinduism.
