Wells Fargo Outage: Website, App Down and Not Working, Gateway Error

Wells Fargo is reporting a nationwide outage on its website and mobile app.

The outage comes only days after the bank experienced a similar system breakdown on February 1.

The bank tweeted Thursday morning, "We're experience a systems issue that is causing intermittent outages, and we're working to restore services as soon as possible". As of 10 a.m., online banking services remained unavailable.

Wells Fargo's online banking platforms, including their mobile banking app, have experienced outages across all systems.

More details to come.

"We want our customers to know that this is a contained issue affecting one of our facilities, and not due to any cybersecurity event or attack". 'Thanks for your patience while we research this issue'.

Downdetector.com which tracks outage reports, shows giant swaths of outages up and down the Eastern seaboard, as well as Texas, California and spots in Iowa and Minnesota. Customers at America's fourth largest bank are still, at time of writing, locked out of their accounts online. Some customers reported that cards were being declined as well.

Many said they were stranded at gas stations and stores unable to complete their purchases.

Wells Fargo on Thursday blamed the technical issues on smoke, which was "detected following routine maintenance".
