Danai Gurira Is Leaving 'The Walking Dead'

Before she was General Okoye, the leader Wankanda's badass all-woman Army in Black Panther, Danai Gurira was Michonne on the hit series The Walking Dead. Cohan has been less committal, though rumors of a Maggie spinoff are circling.

Fans of the cult show, based on the comics by Robert Kirkman, are certainly far from happy with the news that Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne, is leaving TWD in season 10.

The star will reportedly make just a handful of appearances in season 10, which is expected to start airing in October.

Gurira is the latest in a string of Walking Dead stars to leave the show in the past year or so, following Chandler Riggs, who was written off in Season 8, and Lincoln and Lauren Cohan, who both left partway through Season 9, though Cohan may return in some capacity in Season 10.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will then move on to work on the previously announced series of "Walking Dead" movies alongside Lincoln. The Walking Dead Season 9 resumes its run this Sunday night on AMC, with eight more episodes on their way.

With the films set to focus on Rick, it's possible that the lovers will be reunited for the silver screen. What they do know is that they are in undeniable danger. A whole new threat has crossed their paths, and they soon discover it's unlike any threat they have encountered or endured before.

However, included in this grim ranking are the post-apocalyptic drama's most recent fatalities. All that is certain is the stakes are high and numerous. But Dwight is finally ready to return to the franchise on Fear the Walking Dead.

The Whisperers' arrival won't be as scary as the show's future without stand-out character Michonne (Danai Gurira).
