Britain's May seeks more time from MPs for Brexit talks

Britain and Switzerland have signed a continuity agreement that will allow the two countries to trade with each other once the United Kingdom leaves the European Union.

She has promised that, if she has not brought her deal back for a so-called "meaningful vote" by February 13, lawmakers will get to debate Brexit on February 14.

May will promise lawmakers a second opportunity to influence the Brexit talks later in the month in a bid to stave off any rebellion from within her own party by those who fear Britain could end up leaving without a deal.

The prime minister is due to update parliament this week on the progress of her latest talks with the EU.

Opponents of the government accuse May of deliberately wasting time so that Parliament will face a last-minute choice between her deal and no deal.

"I'm certain of one thing, is that it's not going to be as good as if they had not been Brexit, that is for sure", Lagarde said.

When the United Kingdom had been bracing for a hard-Brexit and multinational businesses including financial institutions had been sweeping away their assets from Britain in to other Eurozone countries in order to be connected with the eurozone business following an uncertain Brexit, the UK PM May has again been sent to Brussels to renegotiate a Brexit amendment with the European Union commission.

"We can't allow that to happen", Sir Keir said.

"The government will commit that if the meaningful vote, in other words the deal coming back, has not happened by the 27th of February, then we would allow a further motion - votable in Parliament - to take place, to give that sense of assurance as to the process moving forward", he told the BBC's "Andrew Marr Show".

May has been seeking changes to the deal with Brussels since it was rejected by a record majority in parliament on January 15.

The opposition Labour party has denounced May's strategy as time-wasting aimed at forcing parliament to vote through a deal at the last moment.

Mrs May described discussions with European Union leaders in Brussels as "robust but constructive" and insisted she was determined to "negotiate hard" over the coming days to secure legally-binding changes to the Agreement which will render it acceptable to Parliament. The prime minister is now in talks with Brussels to seek these changes to the backstop. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union but is part of its single market.

The EU and the Irish Government have insisted that the backstop is the best way of guaranteeing there will be no hard border in Ireland.
