MLB Insider Names The 2 Favorites For Bryce Harper

Phillies rumors: Bryce Harper race down to two teams

While SNY's Andy Martino reported Tuesday, citing sources, that NY remains in the hunt to sign Machado with spring training right around the corner, he also reported the Yankees are closely monitoring the situation of Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado as they prefer Arenado over Machado.

Bryce Harper #34 of the Washington Nationals hits a solo home run in the ninth inning against the San Francisco Giants during Game Three of the National League Division Series at AT&T Park on October 6, 2014 in San Francisco, California. However, it sounds like Nightengale thinks the Giants have the edge.

The MLB insider believes there are two favorites to land Harper - his former team and one of their NL East rivals. The Phillies have money to spend, and most signs are pointing toward Philadelphia making Harper an offer that is close to 10 years.

Nightengale said Harper's decision will ultimately come down to the all-mighty dollar. I think for the Phillies to get Harper, they're going to have to grossly outbid the Giants to get him, I really do. San Francisco planned to offer him a lucrative short-term deal.

If the Giants fall out of the picture, the Washington Nationals, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, and San Diego Padres would be left as the reported front-runners for Harper's services.

Take from all of this what you will. Nightengale has been on top of the Harper story since the offseason began and he's one of the best insiders in baseball.
