Terrorists target IRGC bus in southeastern Iran

Suicide attack kills 20 members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard

Suicide attack kills 20 members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard

"The suicide attack on an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps personnel bus happened on the Khash-Zahedan road", IRNA said.

Ten members of the Guards were also wounded in the attack, which targeted a bus transporting the security force, according to Fars News Agency.

The latest attack, one of the deadliest ever carried out against the top military force, comes as Iran is trying to parry what it sees as a US-led war on its economy after Washington re-imposed crippling sanctions against the country.

The province is populated mainly by ethnic Baluchs, who are Sunnis.

Journalists on Twitter say the terrorist group, Jaish ul Adl have claimed responsibility for the attack, via its Telegram channel.

The region, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan, is occasionally marred by Baluch separatist attacks, reports NPR's Peter Kenyon. Iran has sought the co-operation of Pakistan in recent cases involving Jaish al-Adl as well.

Local tribes control large swaths of Iran's Sistan and Baluchistan regions and neither Iranian nor Pakistani security forces have a permanent presence there.

Last September at least 29 people were killed and over 60 wounded in an attack on an IRGC parade in the southwestern city of Ahvaz.

Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, described the conference convened by the United States as the Warsaw Circus, and said it was "no coincidence that Iran is hit by terror on the very day" that the talks began.

Iran fired ballistic missiles into Syria over a bloody Islamic State attack on Tehran targeting parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 2017 that killed at least 18 people. Mark my words: "Iran WILL bring terrorists & their masters to justice", Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reacted in social media at the time.

"I believe it's dead on arrival or dead before arrival", he said at a news conference before the bombing.

Also in December of the same year, four Iranian policemen were killed and 42 other people were wounded in a suicide vehicle bomb attack on a police headquarters in the country's southeast.
