The move left the United States as the only major country where the planes continued to operate. On Sunday, 157 people died when Ethiopian Airlines flight JT610 crashed minutes after takeoff.

Five complaints from American pilots in a federal database, first uncovered by the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday, revealed apparent problems controlling the aircraft. "Nor have other civil aviation authorities provided data to us that would warrant action", the FAA said in a statement Tuesday night.

Around 40 of the aircrafts were in use throughout various Canadian fleets, which has led to canceled and delayed flights across the country in the wake of the ban. The plane plunged into the Java Sea, killing all 189 people on board.

Three flights scheduled to travel through Edmonton International Airport were cancelled Wednesday as the federal government barred Boeing 737 Max 8 planes from Canadian airways.

Meantime, there is no evidence at all that the travelling public should have any concerns about the safety of other Boeing 737 aircraft types, the types that most of our Australian airlines now operate.

FORENSIC INVESTIGATION In Ethiopia, which lacks forensic expertise, Ethiopian Airlines said the black box voice and data recorders recovered on Monday would be sent overseas for analysis.

"It became clear to all parties that the track of the Ethiopian Airlines [flight] was very close and behaved very similarly to the Lion Air flight", FAA acting administrator Dan Elwell said.

Trump cited "new information" that had come to light in the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Two-thirds of the 737 MAX aircraft have been grounded globally, and Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde Gebremariam told the BBC the world's biggest planemaker should ground all such craft until their safety is established.

"This is not conclusive, but it is something that points possibly in that direction, and at this point, we feel that that threshold has been crossed and that is why we are taking these measures".

"The airlines all have these pricing models that are totally automated by the computer and the moment they start removing this inventory, let's say from Halifax to Toronto, and now backing it up into their other flights, the capacity is going to be occupied".

Allison Wallace, director of media and communications for Flight Centre Canada, said a customer's booking information should state the type of aircraft being used for the flight, either by its full name or a three-digit code. And that brand is not just Boeing.

Boeing shares, which were up earlier in the session, fell 2 per cent to US$367.70.

Shares in the airline have now dropped 6.8 percent this week as investors anxious about the impact of the Ethiopian crash.

A Max 8 arrived to Hobby Airport from Las Vegas on Wednesday. Boeing is an incredible company.

Trump had resisted calls for the jet to be grounded until the cause of the crashes is found and planned modifications of software are installed for the aircraft's automatic anti-stall system, which may have played a role in both accidents.

Passengers can also rebook their own flights or request a refund on the airline's website, American said.

Visibility was said to be good but air traffic monitor Flightradar24 reported that the plane's "vertical speed was unstable after take-off". Pilots complained that the Max 8's autopilot system had unexpectedly pushed planes into a dive and failed to provide enough thrust, requiring crews to take control manually.

He saw a safety pamphlet for the 737 Max 8 in his seat pocket, so he knew he was on the plane.

The system prevents the aircraft from pointing upwards at too high an angle, where it could lose its lift. Air Transat and Porter do not use the aircraft.

In both cases, pilots were forced to intervene to stop the plane from descending.

More than a dozen relatives of those who perished in the crash, mainly Kenyans who have flown in, went to pay respects at the rural crash site where Flight ET 302 came down in a fireball.
