Major season has arrived!

Long hitters Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson are licking their lips at the prospect of being able to unleash their drivers at the Players Championship starting in Florida on Thursday.

It may have moved from May to March, but in at least one respect the Players Championship is stuck in its place.

This tournament will feature almost all of the top golfers in the world.

Its $US12.5 million purse is the richest on the PGA Tour. The game's fourth-ranked golfer has also never won at the Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Sergio Garcia, Spain - Before winning the Masters in 2017, Garcia's biggest victory came in the 2008 Players Championship, when he beat Paul Goydos in a playoff. The course boasts a ton of water hazards, deep British-style bunkers, and waste areas as well. There are so many different ways to go and this is such a tough venue that this is indeed the week to scale it back a tiny bit.

Jason Day hits his chip shot on the eighth hole during the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Among them, only Tiger Woods with wins in 2001 and 2013 is competing this weekend.

"My big concern was if I got them, how long would it last?"

Boasting what many believe to be the strongest and deepest field anywhere, the PGA Tour's flagship event...

According to the latest oddsmakers, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy are co-favored to win, as each has 12/1 odds to win. Has a victory in the Waste Management Phoenix Open among three finishes in the top five this season. Given recent form and pure talent, Thomas winning isn't a insane thought whatsoever.

A new drop rule - instead of dropping from shoulder height, players are now required to drop from knee height - cost Fowler a one-stroke penalty in Mexico because he dropped from the old height. And his history at Sawgrass backs that up, with four career top-10 finishes in eight appearances. Has been hit-and-miss at TPC Sawgrass, with four top-10 results including ties for sixth in 2014 and 2017, but has missed the cut in his four other appearances in the Fifth Major, including previous year.

The Australian has started 2019 in good form, putting himself in contention twice to end his two-year winless drought. He's now 22nd in SG: tee-to-green, and if his putting can improve, can certainly be competing on Sunday.

Former victor Rickie Fowler leads the next group at +2000 on the golf odds along with Justin Rose, and they are followed by Brooks Koepka, Francesco Molinari and Tiger Woods at +2200.

Back to the drawing board again this week, and we have easily the best field of the year thus far at the Players Championship, and pricing looks pretty soft. Woods had six three-putts in both the Genesis and Mexico events, a first for his career in consecutive events.
