Mohammed Shami has been charged with non-bailable offences by the Kolkata Police under Indian Penal Code 498A and Indian Penal Code 354A for dowry harrassment and sexual harrassment, respectively.

"The chargesheet has been filed against Shami under IPC 498-A (for mental and physical torture, and dowry harassment) and 354-A (for sexual harassment and assault)", Dip Narayan Pakrashi, public prosecutor in the eastern city of Kolkata, told AFP.

Shami, however, has denied all the accusations made by his estranged wife.

Shami and his wife Hasin Jahan have had a long-standing case on after the latter came out with screenshots of his alleged affair on social media. The charge sheet has been submitted by the Kolkata police on his estranged wife Hasin Jahan's complaint. Frustrated by her failed attempts to reconcile with Shami, Hasin had resumed her modelling career in July a year ago.

However, after a complete investigation by BCCI, he was given a clean chit and they reinstated his central contract. Shami has been given a Grade A contract (Rs 5 lakh) in the latest central contracts list of BCCI. "Also a notice will be served to the complainant on whether she wants to file a protest appeal against the names of three accused being dropped from the chargesheet".

Shami, who picked up five wickets in four matches in recently-concluded ODI series against Australia, will be participating in the Indian Premier League from next week with Kings XI Punjab.
