Passenger left 'shaking' after being told to cover up on Birmingham flight

Emily O'Connor says she was threatened to be removed from a flight because of the way she was dressed

Emily O'Connor says she was threatened to be removed from a flight because of the way she was dressed

When the flight manager boarded, he then told her she needed to leave.

It left her "shaking and upset", she wrote.

Thomas Cook Airlines said it has apologized to O'Connor and the airline's cabin services director had spoken to her "to find out more information" about the incident.

"There was a man sat a couple of rows behind me on the plane in a vest and shorts and nothing was said to him". A male passenger on the flight had also called her a "pathetic woman" and told her to "put a f***ing jacket on". I was physically shaking, and they could see that, yet they continued to sexualise and ridicule me.

Miss O'Connor was the given a jacket by her cousin.

A woman says she was forced to cover up her "inappropriate" outfit on a flight.

The flight staff hounded her for 20 minutes until Emily gave in and wore a jacket lent to her by her cousin.

Emily O'Connor sported the black crop top and orange pants which prompted five members of staff on board her flight to threaten to remove her from the plane if she didn't cover up (it was the crop top, not the orange pants, which caused the commotion).

She said: "It's the principal".

"To be honest why did you make all this fuss and not just cover up and get on with the flight", wrote one Twitter user.

"I don't want to criticise you Emily, but we live in a world today where we get all these sexy selfies, I think we need to wake up and wise up about the fact that you are demeaning what we've been trying to fight for".

The trainee accountant was sent messages of support on Twitter as she revealed her situation online. I wish I didn't need to wear a bra with a crop top!

The airline has now apologised to her.

A spokesman for the airline appologized for the incident and said staff 'could have handled the situation better'.

Thomas Cook has since apologised to Ms O'Connor, saying "it's clear we could have handled the situation better". "In common with most airlines we have an appropriate attire policy", a spokesperson told us. The policy is applicable to men and women of all ages, it said, adding that airline crews face the "difficult task of implementing that policy and don't always get it right". "Our crews have the hard task of implementing that policy and don't always get it right".

The airline's clothing policy stipulates that customers wearing "inappropriate attire (including items with offensive slogans or images) will not be permitted to travel unless a change of clothes is possible".
